MCGRUFF HOUSE
OCPA is the designated project coordinator for the McGruff House Program in Ohio. A McGruff House is a temporary haven for children who find themselves in a frightening or dangerous situation. It might be a house, an apartment, a townhouse, or a mobile home. The program was started in 1982 in Utah and has grown to include at least one program in each of the 48 states. Having a McGruff House program in your neighborhood reflects strong Community value in protecting children. Through this training OCPA can provide you with: Training and information to start a program; Materials and comprehensive McGruff House start-up kit; Partnership building; Technical assistance and support; and Links with other local and national partners. The Core of the McGruff House Program is the House (a safe location) and the Participant (a volunteer committed to protecting children. The McGruff House Program is part of a dynamic network that develops tools to make neighborhood crime prevention work. The network also lobbies on our behalf to improve local, state and national laws that help communities keep safe.
