THE BASICS OF PRESENTING . . . AN INTRODUCTION TO POLICE AND MEDIA RELATIONS TRAINING

This class will introduce public safety professionals to the fundamentals of police and media relationships, benefits and pitfalls. Whether promoting a new crime prevention program to the local newspaper or holding a press conference on a sensitive topic, this class will give professionals the opportunity and insight into handling these important responsibilities. Attendees will learn the basic skills needed to effectively incorporate materials, promote rewarding relationships and get through the tough interview. Subjects Covered: ▪ Public Speaking ▪ Material Organization ▪ Media Release Development ▪ Q & A ▪ Mock Interview Scenarios ▪ Behind The Scenes Visit to a Network News Operation. This class intends to build confidence through relevant lecture, stimulating hands on activities and encouraging guidance. An Introduction to Police and Media Relations would be suitable for patrol officers, crime prevention/school resource officers, public information professionals and front-line managers who may have to present information to the public. The class will spend half the day at an actual local TV station to get hands on experience.
