The Ohio Crime Prevention Association (OCPA) was incorporated as a nonprofit association in 1977. OCPA was founded by a core group of crime prevention officers in Columbus with the goal of promoting the practice and profession of crime prevention within law enforcement and Ohio's communities. We are a not-for-profit, membership-supported organization representing public-and private-sector crime prevention partners. OCPA, the professional voice on crime prevention in Ohio and a partner in national program, is the largest state crime prevention association in the nation and in 2012 will celebrate its 35th anniversary of helping to make communities safer places to live, work and raise a family.
Today with members from around the state representing law enforcement and the private sector, businesses, government agencies and the public at large, OCPA develops and advances a continuum of educational opportunities, resources, programs and networks in an effort to prevent crime in Ohio.
OCPA supports the national model for crime prevention. This definition identifies that crime prevention: is a pattern of attitudes and behaviors; is directed at reducing the threat of crime; enhances the sense of safety and security; positively influences the quality of life in society; helps develop environments where crime cannot flourish.

The mission of the OCPA is to: Coordinate the efforts of members representing law enforcement, government, corporate, social service, educators, the media, faith and citizen partners into a cohesive effective force, dedicated to building safer communities; Provide progressive, professional training on all aspects of crime prevention and community policing; Gather a wide range of crime prevention and community policing resources; Promote the beliefs of crime prevention and principles of community policing through the development of comprehensive publications and manuals; Serve as a supportive authority and technical advisor to law enforcement agencies on crime prevention, community policing and related issues; Collaborate with all levels of government and other organization to maximize information sharing and resources to achieve the common goal of safer communities; Prepare a cadre of presenters to train the community in effective crime prevention strategies and ways to localize initiatives to best meet the needs of a specific area; Lead, at the state and national level, crime prevention projects with far-reaching, long-term community benefits; Advocate for legislative action on a range of crime prevention measures, to institutionalize crime prevention as a way of life in Ohio.

OCPA conferences consistently provide participants with professional crime prevention training and a uniquely structured agenda that emphasizes peer networking as a valuable learning tool. From nationally recognized keynotes, to tentative workshops on organized retail crime, Rx abuse: the scope of the problem, house of worship security, sexting, cyberbullying, social media, and various other crime prevention topics, you will receive training and materials to more effectively build safer communities.
