OCPA Corporate Award – Honorable Mention

Target and Blue

The Target Corporation has a strong tradition of giving back to the communities in which they do business, going back to the founding of the company.  Historically, Target has donated significant resources to local churches, bands and schools.  In the late 1990s, Target began a program to support local law enforcement in and around their stores.

The Target & Blue project is an aggressive program designed to pursue issues of safety, theft and fraud affecting the communities around each store.  Target & Blue is more than just financial support.  It offers expertise and resources such as leadership training, technology and investigative support.  Target’s goal is to partner with law enforcement and reduce the opportunity for criminal activity through grassroots and global strategies.

Target and Blue offers a toolbox of programs that each store’s asset protection manager can offer local law enforcement.  These tools include a Law Enforcement Grant Program; a Safe City crime reduction program for local neighborhoods; Start Something, a free program available to students, teachers and law enforcement that encourages young adults to become involved in community building; and investigative support from Target investigative teams.  Target is also the national corporate sponsor of National Night Out.

Target strongly believes in the motto “Crime Prevention is Everyone’s Business.”  They have walked the talk and are very deserving of honorable mention recognition for their work to prevent crime and make their communities safer.
