John Kafka
Chief Kafka served the citizens of Tallmadge
as a law enforcement officer for 29 years.
He became a Patrol Officer with the Tallmadge Police Department in1978. He was promoted to rank of Sergeant in 1988,
became a Lieutenant in 1996, and was appointed Chief in August of 2000. Chief Kafka retired a friend of crime
prevention in May of this year.
As a Sergeant and Lieutenant, Chief Kafka was in charge of
the Services Division, which included D.A.R.E. and Crime Prevention.
During that time, he was always leading the way in bringing new and innovative
ideas in crime prevention to the citizens of Tallmadge.
He always allotted whatever time was necessary for the Tallmadge Crime Prevention
Officer to work with the citizens of Tallmadge
and also with the Ohio Crime
Prevention Association to get the job done.
Before the title “Community
Policing Officer” was coined, he was one. The City of Tallmadge
is a better place because of Chief John Kafka.
